DAK KOPEC

Self-proclaimed Architectural Psychologist by training.

With a master's and Ph.D. in psychology and a second master’s degree in architecture, and have been awarded an honorary Fellowship to ASID (HFASID).  Dak, I proudly identify as an Architectural Psychologist.

I'm credited with researching, developing, and administering the first low residency graduate program focused on designs for human health at the Boston Architectural College. I served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii with a joint position in the schools’ architecture and medicine, was listed as a Fulbright Specialist, and served two terms as a Fulbright Reviewer.

My focus centers on designing environments tailored to support specific needs, including memory care centers for individuals affected by dementia, trauma care facilities like clinics, shelters for abused victims, refugee centers, and special education institutions catering to children with unique cognitive processing or behavioral disorders.

Egalitarian activist by nature.

In addition to my professional role, I am inherently an egalitarian activist. I firmly believe in the principle that equal opportunity paves the way for equal outcomes. Recognizing that some individuals are granted more opportunities than others, which can impede the path to equitable outcomes, I utilize the written word as a powerful tool. Believing that the pen is mightier than the sword, I aim to shed light on various injustices and advocate for a fairer world through my fiction novels and nonfiction books.

The pen is mightier than the sword. I write fiction novels and nonfiction books.

I have authored several books used by design educators, including three editions of Environmental Psychology for Design, which is used by 1/3 of all Interior Design programs worldwide.

I'm also a novelist and have written two fiction books. Broken Boys Beyond Friendships is a story that details the lives of young people coming to terms with their sexuality in the middle 1990s, and the second titled Logan's Legacy Beyond Blood will be released in 2024.

I am also a two-time Polsky Prize winner for my writing.
